DIETER Groundstation

DIane Emitted Transmissions Earthbound Receiver

In order to receive the signals transmitted by the DIANE experiment, we needed a groundstation. As we wouldn’t know it’s exact location in the air and how the sending antenna would be oriented, a receiving antenna with a big half power beam width and possibly circular polarisation was needed. These two requirements were fulfilled by a crossed dipole antenna design. DIANE is transmitting at 21 MHz, which results in a quarter wavelength of 7.5 m.
